I've been rereading Mother Church recently and am once again struck by how wonderfully insightful it is.jonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01655013690499442446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25190947.post-1158546086003753022006-09-17T21:21:00.000-05:002006-09-17T21:21:00.000-05:00That's a great observation, Jon. His book "Mother Church" was boldly written, and seminal in some of my own thinking on ecumenicity and Roman primacy.Dan Dunlaphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15610718122774026303noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25190947.post-1158543939068758012006-09-17T20:45:00.000-05:002006-09-17T20:45:00.000-05:00I'm inclined to think similar things about contemp...I'm inclined to think similar things about contemporary Lutheran theologians Braaten, Jenson, and Pannenberg. Given the work of these and other Lutheran theologians - together with de Lubac, Rahner, and other Catholic theologians - can it be any coincidence that the Catholic-Lutheran JDDJ came about in the last decade? It's just too bad that these strong Lutheran theologians haven't yet translated into a prevalence of strong Lutheran churches. Unfortunately, Lutheranism seems about as weak as Anglicanism there.jonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01655013690499442446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25190947.post-1158438270502208892006-09-16T15:24:00.000-05:002006-09-16T15:24:00.000-05:00John Henry Newman? :-)I'll get back to this later...John Henry Newman? :-)

I'll get back to this later. I think 20th century Catholic thought can be roughly summarized as divided between Neo-Thomism and the Nouvelle Theologie. Given the neo-patristic orientation of the latter and its openness to post-Kantian philosophy, perhaps a case can be made for Anglican influence.Thomashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14449969414952273164noreply@blogger.com
